KRISTAL TAN

hello,

I’m so excited that you’re here!

I’ve been stuck in high school for the past seven years… but not what you think.

I had no idea that when I started as a resident ballet and contemporary instructor in the small town of San Marcos, Texas, that it would lead to a choreography career. I’ve been fortunate enough to teach and choreograph for over 40 high schools, middle schools, and dance studios in Texas, Florida, Nevada, Minnesota, North Carolina, Wisconsin, California, Hawaii, Mexico, Thailand and Malaysia! My work has received awards such as “Highest Scoring Number,” “Hall of Fame,” “Best Technique,” “Best in Category,” and several choreography and artistry recognitions.

After graduating with my BFA in Dance Performance and Choreography, I moved to NYC where I trained at Broadway Dance Center’s Professional Semester program. Soon after, I re-located to Los Angeles where I am currently signed with Luxe Talent Agency. I’ve been fortunate enough to have worked on set for companies such as Dreamworks, Apple, Dance Spirit Magazine, and international music artists; Chris Perez, Pedro Reis, JOKA, Megan Tibbits, INAS X, and Arman Hovhannisyan. During my time in LA I attended several training programs such as DFD Worldwide, Lume Dance Collective, Debbie Reynold’s Scholarship Program (LA Establishment), E.Y.E by Gigi Torres, Broadway Arts Community, Ian Mackenzie’s IMBRACE and work study at Playground LA.

Currently I travel the nation judging and teaching for various companies such as Precision Arts Challenge, Groove, 8 National Talent, and Fly Dance Competition. I have recently taken on the role of co-director for a pre-professional training program in Buda, TX called DU the Company, and continue to guest teach and choreograph for schools and studios all over Texas. It is such a joy and privilege to call this my “job”!

testimonials

It’s been said that a referral is the highest honor a business can receive. Fortunately for me, my career has stemmed from this concept. I consider these testimonials from past, present, and repeating clients incredibly valuable in speaking to my work and what I have to offer.

“I love having Kristal come in to choreograph for my team! Kristal comes with complete, well organized, and composed routines; visuals, parts, groups, transitions, etc. Year after year she comes in and always has fresh, challenging movement - I cannot recommend her enough!”

— Adriana Cortez, Director at Pflugerville HS

“I love having Kristal work with my dance officers. Her award winning choreography is consistently breathtaking and always a fan favorite. My dancers sing her praises, saying she is “Personable, Friendly and Positive”. Your dancers will leave practice saying, “I love her!”. I 100/10 recommend her work to anyone.”

— Melanie Phillips, Director at Smithson Valley HS

“We have been working with Kristal Tan for a several years. We love the fresh choreography she brings each time she enters the studio. Whether we are having her come for a Master Class or to choreograph routines, when she steps into the studio she brings a positive and exciting energy that really gets the dancers ready to work! Her personality, teaching style, knowledge of technique, and ability to bring out the best in each dancer are just a few of the many reasons we continue to bring her into our studio. She is one of the most inspiring guest teachers that we have had walk through our studio doors. Kristal is able to find the balance needed to encourage each dancer, but also challenges them to grow as a dancer.

Her choreography is very dynamic and never disappoints. We have used her for solos, duets, trios, group choreography, and as a guest teacher - she is amazing in all of them. Her choreography stands out as she brings something new and exciting for each routine she prepares. She has choreographed several award winning pieces for us for competitions and conventions. Our dancers love Miss Kristal and are always so excited when she comes into town.

One of our favorite things about Kristal is that she personally continues to take classes and challenge herself with what is new in various styles of dance, so that she can continue to grow as a choreographer and teacher. She is well versed in multiple styles and continues to shine. Kristal Tan is an asset to our studio and a beloved guest teacher that we will continue to use for years to come.”

— Kwin Kellar, Director at Joni’s Dance Studio

“Kristal has worked with my kiddos and choreographed for us several years, and every time was a pleasure. Her artistic vision, and ability to meet my kids where they are at are just a few of her many strengths. The times that she has choreographed for us, I have typically had a song, storyline, and sometimes even a prop already in mind, and she has done a stunning job of taking my ideas and vision and making it a reality. She’s personable and genuinely cares about the end product she leave you with. I would recommend her any day to anyone looking for a choreographer/technician that you want to push your kids, inspire them, and leave a better overall dancer for having the opportunity to work with her.”

— Kara Jenkins, Director at Canyon Lake HS

I really enjoy working with Kristal. She is flexible with scheduling and she listens to what you want. You can pick your own music or she will send you different songs to choose from. Kristal’s award winning choreography is beautiful. She visualizes smooth transitions and provides challenging choreography. I recommend Kristal to anyone looking for a great lyrical choreographer. Thank you Kristal!

— Adriana Najera, Director at Harlan HS

Kristal works so well with our dancers of all ages! It’s incredible how in such a short time she pulls together such a well crafted piece. Each piece is unique and fresh. Her choreography always brings home the awards and our dancers look forward to working with her every year.
